In this 80th installment of the exploits of bounty hunter Jess Williams, he takes on some of his most evil foes yet. Sid Norton is a tough one. The notorious killer ambushes Jess, wounds him and heads in to finish him off. Just then a young woman living in the woods with her son fires at Norton and he rides away.
The woman is named Mandy and her boy is Davey. Together they get Jess to their tent. Mandy cleans and stitches his wound and they wait for him to come around, hoping they’ve done enough to keep him alive. When Jess wakes up he’s grateful, of course, but also concerned about the two living alone in the woods. Although Mandy has spunk, the pair might not be as lucky the next time evil men arrive. He convinces them to go with him as he follows Norton’s trail to the next town.
They find that Norton has continued his murderous ways, killing off the mayor and new town marshal of Deerfield, leaving the mayor’s wife to manage the general store they owned. Elsie, however, is in a wheelchair. Jess sets up Mandy and Davey to live with her and help run the store.
Jess is anxious to end Norton’s reign of terror before the killer takes the lives of any others, but Norton has already acted. After killing two more people in Temperance, Texas, one the barkeep, Norton holes up in the saloon in a battle to the death. Jess wins that battle and then heads to California, Texas, to turn in the body.
As soon as this task is finished a wagon arrives with a woman doctor clinging to life. She had earlier tended to Jess’s wounds, but after she treated one of the Coker brothers the ungrateful killer shot her and left her for dead.
As Jess heads off to seek vengeance on the Coker brothers, he comes across an old friend, but not under happy circumstances. John Booth has been chasing a bad guy but now he’s lying in the dirt barely alive. They head to the town of Mulberry to get him treatment and go after the Cokers.

WOUNDED Eightieth in a Series of Jess Williams Westerns A Jess Williams Western Book 80 edition by Robert J Thomas Nancy Bach Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
- The author has taken a great character in Jess Williams and turned him into a comic book persona. Shot three times in a week with 44 caliber rounds but is up and about in a couple of days??? The good doctor is shot in the stomach barley alive when she gets treatment and is up working in a week??? The stories are all alike ride into town kill a couple of men ride out on the trail get shot kill a couple men ride back to town see dr walk out get into a gunfight kill another man collect bounty leave town go after another man!!! No real story line or development of any sense of a story. He priced his books like he is a very good author but they aren’t even worth the original .99 cents they started out costing!!!! I have bought every one of the trash books hoping that the author would improve his writing ability but he actually has gotten worse with this book being at the bottom of the series!!! I will buy no more of his poor excuse for a book...
- I have every book in the Jess Williams Series and they get better with each new one issued. I love westerns - Louis L' Amour, William Johnston and now Robert Thomas! By far, I love the Jess Williams series the best. I count down the days till the next one is released. I love the way he thinks in the series - To take down the worst of the worst, to protect the innocent and to provide help where it's needed. Thank you so much for the enjoyment I get from each book published and I hope there will be many more in the future!!
- This is my opinion only. Thought this was very different from the other Jess Williams in the series. Jess previously didn't like disclosing his U.S. Marshal's status but in this one he almost seems proud of the fact & doesn't hesitate to inform others that he is a bounty hunter & on occasion a U.S. Marshal, almost bragging about it at times. Also, another difference...when he was about to face gunfighter Fred Kannon he says to himself, "Well Lucifer, you're about to collect one more soul...I hope."
Jess has always been positive about his abilities but yet he is now a bit doubtful. That is a somewhat scary for us who have followed right along with Jess.
Then you add to that the fact that Jess is shot several times throughout this story...makes me wonder if he's not slowing down a bit & getting ready to retire.
The title of "Wounded" fits this one but I'm hoping this isn't a snapshot of things to come.
All in all it was an exciting addition to the series & I particularly liked his new partner. Not only did Booth save Jess but they became better friends & I hope to see him team up with Jess in the future.
To sum this up, EXCELLENT! I finished it in record time & now I'm going to hate myself because I didn't take my time and savor it more. Highly recommend this fantastic western series... - RJT provides another classic collection of Jess Williams stories that keep you engaged and just simply do not want to set the book aside until you regretfully see the The End. Wounded provides brings the reader back to the reality that Jess Is human and capable of error, but driven to overcome those errors to bring about six gun justice. I really hope we hear more about Mandy and her son, RJT did a great job of developing their characters and I think there has to be much more to their story. Looking forward to more.
- I started reading this book not realizing it was eighteenth in a series. I usually like to start at the first and progress with the author. I had also never read any of Mr. Thomas's stories. I really am sorry that I missed out on a master storytellers books all this time. The book starts out at a dead run and ends the same way. If you are a follower of Jess Williams western you will love this, if your not you will be when you are through reading this book.
- I always anxiously await the next new addition of Jess Williams, each is just as good as the previous one. What I Iike most about Jess is that he always gets the bad guy and he is so generous in helping others. In Wounded Jess helps out Mandy and her five year old son Davey, after Mandy has nursed him back from an ambushed wound and she saved his life. In this book there are other people whom Jess has helped and plenty of bad guys lying in dirt blankets.
- This is another very fine work, author Thomas. Your Jess Williams character invention is as clever as it is brilliant. I know you'll keep 'em coming, as you've given us his wife's name in an early novel, then you introduced her to your readers fairly recently. Looking forward to the "courtship", and, what you do with the very interesting secondary characters you've created...Booth, Wildcat, Olin, Nutball 😅, to name a few.
